Teddy Pendergrass (1950-2010)

The music world is reeling once again, now because of the death of R&B legend, Teddy Pendergrass. Known for hits such as “If You Don’t’ Know Me By Now”, “Wake Up Everbody”, and “Love TKO”, Pendergrass and his music set a standard in soul music that is still unmatched and  being sampled to this day. Rest in Peace Teddy P! You will be missed! In honor of his memory, check out this youtube clip of him on Soul Train back in the day singing the classic “Wake Up Everybody”.

WE HERE AT MUZIKFIX DEDICATE THIS VIDEO TO ALL THE PEOPLE OF HAITI! GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!

As a avid lover of soul music, this is definitely a sad day. Along with other heartbreaking news that I’ve received this morning and the horrific Haiti Earthquake situation, this only adds to the heartache. I pray for each and every one of us as citizens of the world, as we go into each day of our lives. Let’s try to make a positive impact on this world, as we never know when our last day on earth is! Thank GOD for another day.

Peace and Blessings,

Sade – “Soldier of Love” (music video)

Legendary Jazz and Soft Rock singer Sade has finally released the official music video for her new single, “Soldier of Love”. Check it out below:

Classic Sade! And I like it! First of all, let me state that I am very excited that Sade is returning with a new movement. The video is very dark and conceptually fits with the song. I like! “Soldier of Love” has already reached #15 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart, and is showing no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The album of the same title, hits stores on February 8th!

Ryan Toby – “Sometimes”

Ryan Toby, best remembered for his appearance in the “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit” movie or his stint as 1/3 of the group City High, is on the horizon again, as a solo artist. He released his first solo record back in 2007 called Soul Of A Songwriter, which was released independently. Fully taking on the role of songwriter, he’s written songs for the likes of Bobby Brown, Tyrese and Joe. Check out his new leaked track, “Sometimes” below:

While not anything to SCREAM over, the track is nice and has nice vocal arrangements (especially in the hook). The hard pulsating production is great as well. Whether he will use the song for himself or sell it to another artist, the song is decent and well constructed. With that said, I am looking forward to hearing more material from Ryan Toby.

Karen Clark-Sheard – “Prayed Up” (new single)

2010 is set to see the return of Gospel royalty in that of Karen Clark-Sheard, who is scheduled to release her fifth solo album, All In One (Karew/EMI) on April 6th. The first official single, “Prayed Up” surfaced back before 2009’s end. Check out the single below:

Keeping the traditional Clark sound (vocally), Karen definitely wins in the vocal department on this one. However, I must say that overall I am not moved. I definitely expected a lot more “heat” from Karen this time around, especially after the disappointment that was of her last album, It’s Not Over. Here’s hoping that after a great amount of listens, this track will eventually be a grower. With that said, I am still looking forward to the new release. Hopefully this track is not a full representation of what she plans to present on the album.

Sammie – “It’s Time (EP)”

Everybody remember Sammie? The young guy who came onto the music scene back in 2000 with the hit single for all the little kids, “I Like It” from his album From the Bottom to the Top. His last album, the self-titled Sammie, dropped back in 2006 and featured the moderate hits “You Should Be My Girl” and “Come With Me”. He also featured on the #1 single from SouljaBoyTellEm back in 2008 called “Kiss Me Thru the Phone”. All grown up and ready to make moves again, Sammie is set to once again prove his place in (Grown folk) R&B with a new album titled Coming of Age, due this year. Literally days ago, he released an EP via his twitter page called It’s Time. Check it out via the link below:

I must say that I am definitely feeling this new sound from Sammie. He’s always been a great vocalist, but via this EP, one can definitely hear growth. If you are an R&B fanatic, I would recommend this EP (especially “Sex In the Rain”….he vocally slays on this track) to you. If this is any indication of what is to come of his album, I am all ears. Keep the hotness comin’ Sammie. We love it here at MuzikFix!

Usher – “Slippin'”

Yet another Usher track has leaked! This time, it’s a track called ‘Slippin’. We here at MuzikFix are pretty sure that this song stems from the sessions of his soon to be released album, Raymond vs. Raymond, scheduled for release on February 16, 2010. Listen to the song below:

I can definitely respect Usher for the lyrical content on this track. I can see a lot of men relating to this song. However, that’s the only thing the song is good for IMO! It’s not a total wreck of a track, but I am not really moved by the track. Usher provides great vocal offerings on the  song, but something just isn’t clicking! In hearing all of the music that has leaked from this upcoming Raymond vs. Raymond album, I have been quite underwhelmed. The first two official singles, “Papers” and “Daddy’s Home” did not strike any interest on my part for this project/era whatsoever! If anything, the songs have made me lose interest. I am still shocked that although “Papers” didn’t fair well like his previous singles, it still managed to hit #1 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Billboard Chart (which is his 10th #1 R&B song by the way). I am hoping that once I hear the album in its entirety, I can say I like the material because as of now, I am not checking for Raymond vs. Raymond.

KeKe Wyatt – ‘Who Knew’ (Music Video)

Known for her minor hits, “Nothing in this World” and the 2000 Remake of the 1983 Rene and Angela R&B cult classic hit, ‘My First Love’ with Avant, KeKe Wyatt is making an attempt to finally solidify her place in R&B territory with a new single and album. The album, titled Who Knew?, is slated for release on February 23rd.  The single, of the same name, has just been released along with a video that you can watch below:

The song sounds nice. In addition, I’ve always thought she was a great vocalist. I remember listening to her debut Soul Sista back in the day (hard to believe that came out 10 years ago). Although not as good, her rendition of Patti’s ‘If Only You Knew” was great as well. Unfortunately, I don’t see the song making any type of impact on the music world. If anything, it will be serviced to Adult contemporary R&B radio and maybe a few video spins on channels like Centric (BET’s new channel). It’s sad that the FEW people who know about KeKe Wyatt think of the whole “stabbing her husband” incident that occurred some years ago! Very unfortunate because homegirl can sing! I enjoyed her album 10 years ago and I am enjoying this song, so I am definitely gonna check for the album when it drops.
